DIVINE MERCY GROUPS

The Divine Mercy devotion, unveiled to us by our Lord Jesus Christ through His chosen messenger, St. Faustina Kowalska, is the perfect devotion for our modern age. Sister Faustina experienced a divine meeting with the Lord in the night, depicted in the image above. In this encounter, Jesus revealed profound insights about His Divine Mercy to Sister Faustina and guided her in spreading His message globally.

'Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: Jesus, I trust in you. I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and {then} throughout the world.'

“Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy”

Born on the 25th August 1905, St Faustina was baptised with the name Helena in the Catholic parish church of Swinice Warckie Poland. Her family were very poor and religious, and she was one of ten children.

From a very young age, Sr. Faustina stood out as being very special by way of her dedication to prayer, work and obedience. Her consideration for the poor was also a beautiful gift .

Sr. Faustina made her First Holy Communion at the age of nine and from a very early age she pursued her vocation as a Nun. Eventually, after having a vision of the suffering Christ, her vocation was finally realised when on the  01st August 1925 she was accepted into the congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. It was here that she took the name Sr. Maria Faustina of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

She served the community and the poor in obedience as a cook, a gardener and a porter. During the thirteen years with the community she stayed at several religious houses located in the regions of Krakow, Plock and Vilinius.

St. Faustina often contemplated  the Word of God and His Mercy, and this was to help her develop her spirituality which guided her further to  commit herself, in a child-like way to a deeper love of the Eucharist and  devotion to Mary the Mother of Mercy

Sr. Maria Faustina was chosen by God as His Secretary of His Mercy and was instructed to tell the World about His great message which was recorded in her diary titled 'Divine Mercy in my Soul'. This diary contains details of Faustina's discussions with Christ, where he gives her revelations about His intentions, and instructions about how the Church was to celebrate and promote His Divine Mercy.

The Diary, the message and its authenticity has been approved and recognised by the Catholic Church as a Divine Revelation - and the instructions from Christ have been implemented across the world.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is the prayer given to Sr Faustina to share with the people of the world. It brings with it beautiful graces from our Lord Jesus, and is very effective in different circumstances

It is through St Faustina that God made known His message of abundant Divine Mercy to the entire Church – a rich devotion. Devotion to the Divine Mercy of God shows us He sees us through the eyes of Mercy – the reason for our salvation. There are five ways in which the message of Divine Mercy can be understood: firstly, Jesus asked that the Divine Mercy image given to St Faustina be meditated upon; secondly, through the establishment of a Divine Mercy celebration, which is now the Solemnity of Divine Mercy Sunday; thirdly, through praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, preferably daily; fourthly, honouring the day (Friday) and hour of Jesus’ death (3pm), remembered preferably by praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet; and lastly, He asked for all to actively spread the message of Divine Mercy by sharing its message and showing Mercy to others.2 When requesting a special Feast Day to be attributed to His Divine Mercy, which is now held on the first Sunday after the Easter weekend, Jesus said, “I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.”3 It is worthy to note that at one point St Faustina’s diary was forbidden by the Church due to the message of Divine Mercy being given via a private revelation. The Church had to spend time discerning its legitimacy. The Church has created norms discerning the legitimacy of private revelations and apparitions in the document, ‘Norms Regarding the Manner of Proceeding in the Discernment of Presumed Apparitions or Revelations.’ 4 Backed by Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis we have no need for caution with St Faustina’s private revelations. The types of experiences and private revelations we uncover in ‘The Faith Companion’ are not officially sanctioned and recognised by the Church; we simply publish peoples’ experiences of God as lived in ordinary life. However, like officially sanctioned private revelations, God doesn’t intend them to be ‘private’ for the individual but are given for the good of the whole of God’s children and His Church, which is why we share them
